10 essential digital safety habits

1. Use unique passwords

Every important account should have a different, strong password. Reusing passwords across services means that one data breach may put several accounts at risk. A reputable password manager can help you create and store unique passwords.

2. Enable multi-factor authentication

Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, adds another layer of protection. Where available, prefer passkeys or authenticator apps over SMS. Never share one-time verification codes and do not approve sign-in requests you did not initiate.

3. Keep your devices updated

Regularly install updates for your operating system, browser and applications. Updates often fix known security vulnerabilities. Enable automatic updates where practical and avoid software that is no longer supported.

4. Inspect links carefully

Before opening a link from email, SMS or social media, inspect its actual destination. A familiar name inside a URL does not prove authenticity, and HTTPS does not guarantee trustworthiness. When in doubt, open the official app independently or type the known website address.

5. Recognize phishing warning signs

Unexpected requests for passwords, card details or OTPs, threats of account suspension and urgent deadlines are common phishing warning signs. Do not rely solely on the message's appearance or sender name. Verify requests through an independent official channel.

6. Protect online payments

For banking and shopping, use the official app or a website address you know and have verified. Carefully check the amount and recipient before authorizing a payment. Enable transaction alerts where available and contact your bank immediately if you notice an unrecognized transaction.

7. Limit personal data sharing

Share only the personal information that is necessary. Avoid sending passwords, identity numbers or banking details through unexpected messages. Before using analysis tools such as Elenxos, remove sensitive information and secret tokens from text and links.

8. Keep secure backups

Regularly back up important files and photos. Use a trusted service or external storage device and keep at least one backup isolated from your main device. Periodically verify that you can actually restore your data.

9. Use trusted networks and devices

Avoid sensitive transactions on unknown or shared devices. On public Wi-Fi, confirm that you joined the intended network and prefer services using encrypted connections. Lock devices with a PIN, biometrics or a strong password, and do not leave active sessions on other people's computers.

10. Act quickly if you suspect fraud

If you think you disclosed a password, change it through the official service and review unfamiliar sign-ins. If you shared banking details or approved a suspicious transaction, contact your bank promptly. If you installed suspicious software, seek technical help. Elenxos can provide additional risk indicators, but it does not replace these actions.
